2-2-2012-dundee“On behalf of the National Italian American Foundation (NIAF) Board of Directors, we are deeply saddened by the death of boxing trainer Angelo Dundee. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the Dundee family. Mr. Dundee passed away on Wednesday, February 1, at age 90.

“Legendary champion Muhammad Ali and his longtime trainer and friend Angelo Dundee received the NIAF ‘One America Award’ during the Foundation’s 25th Anniversary Awards Gala in 2000 before more than 3,000 guests. The award presented that evening by former President Bill Clinton exemplified NIAF’s commitment to respecting diversity throughout the United States.

“The Foundation recognizes the fact that this diversity is what has made America great. The friendship and teamwork of Ali and Dundee crossed racial and ethnic barriers and established them as deserving recipients.

He also joined NIAF’s Board Leadership on several trips to Italy. He made each excursion memorable – his good humor and charm was warmly welcomed by our Italian hosts and media.

“In the field of sports, he left a legacy as a great friend, trainer and motivator.”
