Italian American Statistics

As of the 2010 U.S. Census, the United States Federal Government removed “Italian American” from the question inquiring about ethnicit y. Therefore, it was up to the individual to specify their Italian American heritage in the free space provided. As a result, 17,253,941 Italian Americans self-identified and wrote-in “Italian”. However, experts predict that the community is actually larger with figures closer to 26 million.
