Washington, D.C. (June 18, 2026) — The National Italian American Foundation celebrates the life of Tom Dreesen, one of America’s most beloved comedians and a treasured friend of the Italian American community. He was 86.

A proud U.S. Navy veteran, Tom is perhaps best remembered as Frank Sinatra’s opening act for 14 years — a partnership that placed him among the most recognizable voices in American entertainment. He was equally devoted to those who serve, including his longtime support of fellow Italian American Gary Sinise and the Gary Sinise Foundation on behalf of our nation’s veterans and first responders.

But to us, Tom was family. Over the course of a long friendship, he was a generous and loyal presence at NIAF events across the country — performing, emceeing, and headlining tributes that brought us together. His warmth, his ability to bring an entire room to its feet, and his deep affection for everything we stand for never wavered.

We are honored to have called him a friend. He will be deeply missed.
