The National Italian American Foundation (NIAF) applauds President Biden’s historic decision to nominate Admiral Lisa Franchetti as Chief of Naval Operations. If confirmed, Adm. Franchetti will become the first woman to ever serve on the Joint Chiefs of Staff. This groundbreaking nomination underscores the President’s commitment to diversity within our military’s top leadership.

Adm. Franchetti’s qualifications make her exceptionally prepared for this role as she is currently serving as the vice chief of naval operations. She previously led the U.S. Navy’s 6th Fleet, based in Naples, Italy, and covered all naval forces in Europe and Africa. Her distinguished 38-year career includes combat experience, leadership of a carrier strike group deployment, and senior strategy roles. Adm. Franchetti is an accomplished professional who has shattered gender barriers throughout her Navy service.

NIAF joins all Americans in congratulating Adm. Lisa Franchetti on this momentous nomination. Her talents, dedication and authentic leadership will greatly benefit the Navy and our national security.
