(Washington, D.C. – July 27, 2021) On behalf of the National Italian American Foundation (NIAF) Board of Directors and the Italian American community, we send our heartfelt condolences to the family of former U.S. Sen. Mike Enzi (R-WY) who passed away Monday at his home in Wyoming following a bicycle accident last week that left him seriously injured.

Known as the quiet senator, getting his work done out of the spotlight, Enzi represented Wyoming in the U.S. Senate for 27 years. Notably, Sen. Enzi sponsored a bill awarding a posthumous Congressional Gold Medal to Giuseppe Garibaldi and recognizing the Republic of Italy on the 150th Anniversary of its Unification.

“Senator Enzi was a patriot and a gentleman. We appreciated his proud support of his Italian heritage and of our Foundation’s work to further the U.S.-Italy relationship,” said Hon. Anita Bevacqua McBride, NIAF Vice Chair National.

Enzi is survived by his wife Barbara, daughters Amy Enzi and Emily Enzi, and son Brad Enzi, and several grandchildren.
