(Washington, D.C. – August 19, 2021) Liberty has once more sprung forth from Philadelphia with the ruling by Common Pleas Court Judge Paula Patrick which blocked the city’s baseless attempt to remove the Christopher Columbus statue in South Philadelphia’s Marconi Park.

The National Italian American Foundation (NIAF) applauds Judge Patrick’s well-reasoned decision and hopes it will serve as a catalyst for other municipalities across the nation to reconsider their unjustifiable attempts to remove tributes to Columbus who remains a figure of tremendous historical significance not only to Italian Americans but to American immigrants and their descendants of all ethnicities.

“The outcome of this lawsuit represents a triumph of the rule of law over those who would seek to impose their agenda without the due process and civil discourse that are at the heart of our American democracy,” stated NIAF Chairman Robert E. Carlucci.

The National Italian American Foundation (NIAF) is a non-profit, non-partisan organization dedicated to preserving, promoting, and protecting the Italian American heritage and culture. To learn more about the Foundation, visit www.niaf.org.
