NIAF Statement on the Passing of Amato BerardiFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The National Italian American Foundation (NIAF) mourns the passing of longtime supporter and friend Amato Berardi, who died suddenly in Rome on December 12, 2025, at the age of 67.
In October 2015, NIAF proudly honored Amato with our Leadership and Service Award at our 40th Anniversary Gala, recognizing his extraordinary dedication to preserving Italian heritage and advancing the Italian American community in the United States.
Born in Longano, in the Molise region of Italy, Amato immigrated to America at age 12 and embodied the spirit of the American Dream. He built a highly successful career in financial services as founder and president of Berardi & Associates Inc. in Pennsylvania, becoming a respected figure in Philadelphia’s business community and earning membership in the prestigious Million Dollar Round Table.
Amato’s commitment to public service led him to the Italian Parliament, where he served as a deputy representing Italian citizens living abroad from 2008-2013. He was honored as a Cavaliere of the Republic of Italy and founded the NIA-PAC organization to strengthen Italian American political representation. In 2019, he was named Ambassador of Molise in the World.
Throughout his life, Amato remained deeply connected to his roots while building bridges between Italy and America. His autobiography, “American Saga,” captured the remarkable journey of an immigrant boy who never forgot his heritage while achieving extraordinary success in his adopted homeland.
The Italian American community has lost a visionary leader, successful entrepreneur, and passionate advocate for our shared heritage. Amato’s legacy of service, determination, and cultural pride will continue to inspire future generations.
Our deepest condolences go to his wife, Maddalena and two children, Carmine and Carmelina in Philadelphia, his extended family in Molise, and all who knew and admired this remarkable man.
