(Washington, DC – May 14, 2001) “The National Italian American Foundation (NIAF) heartily congratulates the apparent victor, Mr. Silvio Berlusconi, as Italy’s prime minister, upon the election results of Sunday, May 13, 2001. Mr. Berlusconi’s center-right coalition appears to have won the election. The Forza Italia leader, Silvio Berlusconi has been a good friend of the United States of America and the National Italian American Foundation. We wish him many successes in the future.”
