Purchase Handmade Taralli to Help Make a Difference in the Lives of Italian Inmates

NIAF is proud to partner with the Saint Pio Foundation to support their "A Mano Libera - Senza Barre" ("Freehand – Without Bars") project. This project is an alternative to detention for inmates and ex-inmates of Italian prisons. Motivated by a strong desire for personal and social redemption, program participants work on a 25-acre farm in Andria, (Puglia) Italy, where they learn artisanal skills and produce taralli. Use code NIAF so a portion of the proceeds are donated back to the Foundation.

The research project focuses on the Italian communities in North America with the goal of building a shared community biography centered on the Italians and Italian descendants who have contributed and continue to contribute in various areas to the civic life of the communities where they have lived or still live. The research also aims to investigate the relationship that Italian North Americans maintain (or don't maintain) with their land of origin, and the "Italian-ness" present in them.
