NIAF Joins Italian PM to Celebrate Columbus Statue in NYC
 
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni paid tribute to Christopher Columbus by participating in a wreath-laying ceremony at the Columbus statue in Manhattan. This meaningful event came as the city held a hearing to discuss bills that could allow the removal of monuments honoring historical figures. As honoring Columbus's legacy aligns with NIAF's mission, our leadership was honored to have been invited to join Meloni in celebrating this iconic symbol of Italian American heritage.

Anita Bevacqua McBride
 
Congratulazioni to NIAF Vice Chair National Board Member Anita Bevacqua McBride on the publication of her new book, U.S. First Ladies: Making History and Leaving Legacies, which she co-authored. McBride was assistant to President George W. Bush and Chief of Staff to First Lady Laura Bush. She is a founding member of the First Ladies Association for Research and Education (FLARE). She directs the Legacies of America's First Ladies Initiative at the American University in Washington, D.C., where she serves as executive-in-residence in the Center for Congressional and Presidential Studies in the School of Public Affairs. Since 1972, The Naples Italian American Foundation has been welcoming snowbirds! October has a full schedule of events for you including Pasta Wednesdays (4th & 18th), Columbus Day Cultural Heritage Celebration and Dinner (9th), Italian Wine & Cheese Tasting (13th), Italian Buffet and '80s Dancing (28th). Future highlights include an All Souls Day program (Nov. 2), Opening Night Dinner Dance: Allegretto with Aura (Nov. 4), Understanding Opera with Andrea Del Principe (Nov. 18) and our Poinsettia GALA (Dec. 2). Of course, Italian classes, Bocce and Mah Jongg are daytime activities year-round. Monday night Italian movies and a full cultural program begin after the first of the year.

Italian Flag Raising in Tampa, Fla.
 
October 11: The City of Tampa will host a flag raising event at 11 a.m. at the Tampa Municipal Office Building Atrium. Celebrate Tampa's Italian roots and friendship with Italy and the city of Agrigento, with whom the City of Tampa has had a Sister City Agreement since July 1991.

NOIAW Rhode Island Italian Heritage Month Event
 
October 16: In celebration of Italian Heritage Month, the NOIAW Rhode Island Region will host an elegant event to promote the preservation of the language, culture, heritage and rich traditions centered around the table in Italy. An authentic Italian 3-course wine dinner will feature specialty dishes from a specific region in Italy. Restaurant owner, Anthony Tarro, will add an educational component by explaining to the guests each dish and the regional cooking. Natalie Volpe, wine importer and NOIAW RI council member, will pair dishes with a variety of handpicked Italian wines. Natalie will share information on the wine selections and the region and culture in Italy in relation to wine making.

"A Tavola" in New York, N.Y. and Zoom
 
October 25: NOIAW will launch "A Tavola": a National Conversation live from NYC at 6:30 p.m. and via Zoom everywhere else on the importance of celebrating Italian American "HER - story!" NOIAW board member, Adriana Trigiani will offer a virtual toast to HER-Story* and focus the conversation on how we relate to our own heritage using the themes – History, Education and Renaissance. Following the toast to Italian American Heritage and Culture Month, the Zoom feed will adjourn so that live conversations may continue around the other in-person tables scattered across the globe with NOIAW ambassadors.
