| NIAF together with the National Christopher Columbus Association (NCCA) sponsor an annual national essay contest. Three outstanding essays are chosen from amongst the submissions to win a cash prize. The first-place winner receives a $1,200 prize and an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C., to read the essay at the Columbus Day event at Union Station. The second-place winner receives $500 and the third-place winner receives $300. Deadline to apply is March 15th.

| March 11: The Department of Italian Studies, in association with the Musco Center, presents Theater & Culture: An Italian Perspective. This year's edition will feature the new Consul General of Italy in Los Angeles, Raffaella Valentini; a talk by leading Italianist Daniela Bini, a modern reinterpretation of Pirandello's Six Characters written and directed by Professor Nick Gabriel, performed by Chapman's Department of Theater, a taste of Nobel Prize winner Dario Fo's unique grammelot style performed by award-winning actor Matthias Martelli.
