High School Students: Win a Free Trip to DC
 
NIAF together with the National Christopher Columbus Association (NCCA) sponsor an annual national essay contest. Three outstanding essays are chosen from amongst the submissions to win a cash prize. The first-place winner receives a $1,200 prize and an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C., to read the essay at the Columbus Day event at Union Station. The second-place winner receives $500 and the third-place winner receives $300. Deadline to apply is March 15th.

March 11: The Department of Italian Studies, in association with the Musco Center, presents Theater & Culture: An Italian Perspective. This year's edition will feature the new Consul General of Italy in Los Angeles, Raffaella Valentini; a talk by leading Italianist Daniela Bini, a modern reinterpretation of Pirandello's Six Characters written and directed by Professor Nick Gabriel, performed by Chapman's Department of Theater, a taste of Nobel Prize winner Dario Fo's unique grammelot style performed by award-winning actor Matthias Martelli.

Italian Entry in the 63rd Annual Swallow's Day Parade in San Juan Capistrano, Calif.
 
March 25: No better way to show your Italian pride than by marching along a parade route lined with over 30,000 spectators, filmed on TV and broadcast live on several radio stations. Carry an Italian regional flag, dress in Italian colors or dress for Carnevale. After the parade, celebrate at an Italian party. To participate, contact Vicky Carabini.
