Italian American Heritage Day in Oelwein, Iowa |
|
August 13: Beginning in 1901, Oelwein became one of three major settlements of Italians in Iowa. Each August, Oelwein celebrates Italian Heritage Day, so the descendants of early settlers can celebrate their heritage together. Festivities at Red Gate Park include bocce ball contests, bingo, children's activities, other games, food stands and a mass.

112th Annual Celebration of the Fisherman's Feast in Boston, Mass. |

August 18 – 21: The Fisherman's Feast is an annual event that began in Boston in 1910 and is based on a tradition that goes back to the 16th century in Sciacca, Sicily. The Feast is based on the devotion of the fishermen from Sciacca to the Madonna del Soccorso (Our Lady of Help). It is Boston's oldest continuous Italian festival.

Named the "Feast of all Feasts" by National Geographic Magazine, this authentic Italian street festival has it all for people of every age: parades, strolling singers, live entertainment, contests and religious services are held daily.

Woven Lives: Exploring Women's Needlework from the Italian Diaspora |

Now through October 16, 2022, the Italian American Museum of Los Angeles is pleased to present a new temporary exhibition that examines the significance of needlework in the lives of Italian American women, their families, and communities from the mid-nineteenth century to the present. The exhibition reconsiders the role of needlework beyond its aesthetic value and utilitarian purposes and recognizes it as an extraordinary medium for expressing and preserving culture.
