(WASHINGTON, DC – May 3, 2004) The National Italian American Foundation (NIAF) will launch its NIAF International Law Institute at Harvard Law School during a luncheon and plenary session on Saturday afternoon, May 22, 12:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Michael S. Greco, president-elect of the American Bar Association (ABA); Giovanni Prezioso, general counsel of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC); and Hon. Sergio Vento, Italy’s Ambassador to the United States; will be joined by prominent Washington, D.C. attorney Frank Razzano, who will chair the new Institute.

The NIAF International Law Institute offers educational, informational, and networking events for lawyers, judges, and law professors in the United States and Italy. According to NIAF Chairman Frank J. Guarini, “The institute will foster a better understanding of the special challenges and unique opportunities legal professionals face in an increasingly international world.” Participants from the two countries will share their experiences, strategies, solutions to common legal problems, and compare and contrast the different approaches to those problems.

Following the May 22 NIAF International Law Institute meeting, U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia will be the guest of honor at NIAF’s first New England gala. The black-tie gala begins at 6:30 p.m. with a reception followed by dinner at 7:30 p.m. at the Sheraton Boston Hotel in Boston, Mass. Scalia is the first Italian American to serve as a Justice on the Supreme Court. In 1986, he was honored at the Foundation’s anniversary gala with a NIAF Special Achievement Award in Public Service. Salvatore A. Balsamo, chairman of TAC Worldwide Companies in Dedham, Mass. and NIAF regional vice president, is the dinner chairman. He will be joined by Ambassador Vento, Mayor Thomas M. Menino and other prominent Italian Americans in business, politics and law throughout New England.
