Miami Attorney Arthur Furia Elected To NIAF Board of Directors

(WASHINGTON, DC – March 26, 2002) Arthur J. Furia, Esq., a partner in the law firm of Holtzman, Equels, & Furia, P.A., and National Italian American Foundation (NIAF) regional vice president in the Southeast, has been elected to the National Italian American Foundation (NIAF) Board of Directors. The elections for the 2002-2005 term were held Friday, March 8 at the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) Board Room in New York City.

Mr. Furia practices corporate and international business law and his law firm has offices in Miami, Orlando and Tallahassee, Florida. He is a member of the Florida and Pennsylvania Bars.

“We are pleased and delighted that Arthur Furia has been elevated to the NIAF Board of Directors,” said NIAF President Joseph R. Cerrell. “Art has greatly enhanced the NIAF presence in the Southeast region of our country through council receptions and membership,” added Cerrell.

Arthur Furia has been actively involved in Miami’s Italian American community for the last fifteen years. He is the current honorary president and past president of the Italy-America Chamber of Commerce Southeast and has been a member of its Board of Directors since 1992. Mr. Furia is also the Florida representative to the American Chamber of Commerce in Italy (AMCHAM). Mr. Furia was a founder and is current chairman of the Primo Carnera Foundation, a non-profit organization assisting both Italian and American disadvantaged children. He serves on the Board of Trustees of St. Thomas University and the Board of Directors of the Miami Dade Community College Foundation.

In 1993, Mr. Furia was invested into the Association of Master Knights of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta. In June 2000, the President of the Republic of Italy conferred upon Mr. Furia the title of “Cavaliere” in recognition of his merits and contributions to the Republic. In 1998, Mr. Furia was named “Renaissance Man of the Year” by the Renaissance Historical Society of Florida.

His firm represents the Republic of Italy and the Consulate General of Italy-Miami which encompasses the Southeastern U.S. and the Caribbean. Mr. Furia has participated in a number of economic and business trade missions to Italy over the last eight years where he has lectured at numerous business and trade seminars.
