(WASHINGTON, D.C. – September 10, 2007) John C. Sciaccotta, a partner/shareholder in the Chicago-based law firm Shefsky & Froelich, was appointed National Italian American Foundation (NIAF) area coordinator in Illinois by Robert V. Allegrini, NIAF regional vice president and regional director of communications for the Hilton Hotel Corporation.

“John will greatly enhance the NIAF presence in Illinois,” Allegrini said. “He will help increase NIAF’s membership base, which will help fund additional scholarships and youth programs in this important area of our country.”

As area coordinator, Sciaccotta will coordinate activities and programs with Allegrini to increase NIAF’s visibility throughout the Midwest region of the country. Over the years, many young people in the state have benefited from the millions of dollars NIAF has devoted to scholarships, grants, mentoring, U.S./Italy student exchanges and more.

As partner/shareholder of Shefsky & Froelich, Sciaccotta concentrates his practice on litigation matters with a special emphasis on complex civil trial and appellate cases brought in federal and state courts throughout the nation. He is also a member of the firm’s Board of Directors, and Marketing and Client Development Committees. Among his professional honors, Sciaccotta was selected as an Illinois “Super Lawyer” by Chicago Magazine in 2005, 2006, and 2007. He is a member of the Leading Lawyers’ Network, which consists of the top five percent of Illinois’ lawyers as selected by their peers, due to his many career accomplishments. Sciaccotta earned his bachelor’s degree from Creighton University in 1984 and his Juris Doctor from DePaul University College of Law in 1987. According to the U.S. Census 2000, Illinois has approximately 744,274 Italian Americans, approximately six percent of the population.

The National Italian American Foundation (NIAF) is a non-profit organization based in Washington, D.C., dedicated to preserving the heritage of Italian Americans. Visit www.niaf.org.
