Italian Culture Week
The Embassy of Italy is pleased to announce a series of events in celebration of the launching of the book The Italian Legacy in Washington, D.C.: Architecture, Design, Art and Culture. The events will take place from April 1 until April 6, 2008 at various venues throughout the city. The celebrations aim to showcase Italy’s influence in the cultural life and heritage of the capital of the United States. The events range from panel discussions to social soirées and a classical music concert.
Wednesday, April 2, from 12:00-1:30 p.m.: Conference and panel discussion, at the National Gallery of Art, East Building Concourse, Large Auditorium. Opening remarks will be given by H.E. Giovanni Castellaneta, Ambassador of Italy. Illustrated lecture by architect Massimiliano Fuksas and panel discussion with experts, including David Alan Brown and Maygene Daniels. The event is organized in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute in Washington, DC. Book signing with David Alan Brown, H.E. Giovanni Castellaneta, and Maygene Daniels to follow.
Thursday, April 3, at 5:00 p.m.: Panel discussion “Italy on the Potomac: the Italian heritage in Washington, D.C.”; at the Embassy of Italy.
Friday, April 4, at 12:00 p.m.: Presentation of the documentary “Abitare Palladio” by Claudio Barbati, at the National Gallery of Art, in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute.
Sunday, April 6, at 6:30 p.m.: Concert, “La cetra amorosa: songs and sonatas of Baroque Italy” Chatham Baroque and Rosa Lamoreaux, soprano, at the National Gallery of Art, West Building Main Floor, West Garden Court.
