Conference on Examining Latest Research in Cancer Prevention Scheduled for NIAF Convention in Nation’s Capitol

(Washington, D.C. – October 20, 2011) A special public policy medical conference - New Frontiers: An International Conference, Examining the Latest Research in Cancer Prevention - sponsored by the Sbarro Health Research Organization and the National Italian American Foundation, will take place on October 28th during NIAF’s 36th Anniversary Gala Convention Weekend, held from October 28-29 at the Washington Hilton in Washington, D.C. The conference is scheduled from 3 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Highlights of the afternoon conference include:

Antonio Giordano, M.D., Ph.D., president and founder of the Sbarro Health Research Organization (www.shro.org) and director, Sbarro Institute for Cancer Research and Molecular Medicine, will present a talk on Environmental Factors, Genes, and Human Cancers.

Leena Hilakivi-Clarke, Ph.D.
, professor of Oncology at Georgetown University, co-director of Shared Animal Resources at the Lombardi Lab and director of the Tumor Biology MS program, will speak on Breast Cancer and Nutrition.

Eva Surmacz, Ph.D.
, associate professor of Biology at Temple University, Director, Obesity and Cancer Program at the Sbarro Institute for Cancer Research and Molecular Medicine, will present a talk on Breast Cancer and Obesity.

Following the program, Dr. Giordano will present the second annual Giovan Giacomo Giordano Foundation and NIAF Award in Ethics and Creativity in Medical Research to George Katter, M.D.
