NIAF Delegation to Meet in Sicily, Italy

*Mission to Italy to Build Cultural Bridges*

(Washington, D.C. – June 1, 2011) The National Italian American Foundation (NIAF) leadership including the Foundation’s Chairman Jerry Colangelo, President Joseph V. Del Raso, Esq., and the executive committee will travel to Italy for its international board meeting in Palermo, Italy, on June 7, 2011.

The 4-day itinerary begins on June 4 and concludes June 7, 2011 with the Board of Directors meeting at Palazzo dei Normanni in Palermo, Sicily. Later that day, twelve-time MLB All-Star Mike Piazza will present his baseball jersey to Guglielmo Micciche’, vice president of Unione Sportiva Citta` di Palermo (Palermo soccer team).

While in Sicily, the NIAF delegation will attend a conference “Human Capital without Borders” in Palermo’s Villa Zito on June 4. Professor Giovanni Puglisi, the conference moderator, will be joined by Canio Mazzaro. The conference will begin at 5 p.m. and is sponsored by the Fondazione Banco di Sicilia.

The following day, NIAF’s leadership will tour UNESCO World Heritage Sites including Palazzo dei Normanni and Cappella Palatina as well as churches and monuments in Palermo. Hon. Francesco Casio, chairman of the Sicilian Parliament, will host NIAF along with prominent Italian and Italian-American scholars and cultural experts. On June 6, 2011, Bruno Mancuso, mayor of Sant’Agata di Militello in Messina, Sicily, will welcome NIAF’s leadership at Castello Gallego. Mayor Mancuso will be joined by local dignitaries and declare June 6 as NIAF Day, presenting medals to the guests.
