Italian Heritage and Culture Month Events—Staten Island The Italian-Cultural Foundation at Casa Belvedere is hosting several events during Italian Heritage and Culture Month. First up is a screening “Mal’Occhio” (The Evil Eye), a documentary by Agata De Santis; on Tuesday, Oct. 2, 6:30–8:30 p.m. On Thursday, Oct. 18, 6:30–8:30 p.m., a round table discussion “Living the Life–The World of the Italian American Artist,” with the artists of the Italian American Visual Artists’ Network. And, on Wednesday, Oct. 24, 6:30–8:30 p.m., a lecture by Prof. Louis R. Leonini, “The Great Contributions of Italian Discoverers to American History.” The programs will be held in the Arts & Humanities Building at Notre Dame Academy, 134 Howard Ave., Staten Island, N.Y. Help Publish This Book The Italian Cultural Foundation at Casa Belvedere is sponsoring an online fundraiser to assist the independent Toronto-based publisher Guernica Editions in publishing “Trinacria: A Tale of Bourbon Sicily.” Written by Anthony Di Renzo, this historical novel chronicles the destruction of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies during the Italian Revolution and has been compared to Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa’s famous novel “The Leopard.” The campaign’s goal is to raise $5,000 by Dec. 13; it currently has surpassed $4,000. Uffizi Gallery’s “Angel” Exhibit U.S. Tour Continues If you haven’t seen the “Offering of the Angels: Tapestries and Paintings from the Uffizi Gallery” exhibition, it’s now on display at the Chazen Museum of Art in Madison, Wis., until November 25. This inspirational exhibit of 43 paintings and two tapestries is a rare opportunity to view such Baroque and Renaissance masters as Botticelli, Liberi and Tintoretto without leaving America.
