—All-expenses paid trip to Italy is endowed by Ambassador Peter F. Secchia—

(Washington, D.C. – November 18, 2019) – The National Italian American Foundation (NIAF) announces that applications opened today for its Ambassador Peter F. Secchia Voyage of Discovery program. Now in its 20th year, this all-expenses paid cultural and educational initiative sends Italian American college students to Italy annually, to strengthen their understanding of their heritage and the contributions Italy has made to the world.

“The Ambassador Peter F. Secchia Voyage of Discovery is a life-changing experience as well as the cornerstone program at the National Italian American Foundation,” said NIAF Director of Special Programs Gabriella Mileti. “These young Italian Americans are not only bonded to the land of their ancestors, but the trip fosters lifelong friendships and a newfound appreciation for their heritage, and that is priceless.”

The trip is scheduled for May 26 to June 6, and will include opportunities for students to tour the NIAF Region of Honor, attend educational lectures; meet with government officials and business leaders; visit government offices, international businesses, museums and other cultural attractions; and perform community service.

Participants must be between the ages of 18 and 23 at the time of travel (May 2020); enrolled in a college or university for the semester preceding the trip (Spring 2020); and must be of Italian descent and have never traveled to Italy.
