How Do I Contribute?
The NIAF has proven to be a powerful and unified voice for Italian Americans throughout the country, and a major influence in Washington. Our contributors include some of our nation’s most influential business, political, and community leaders. Among our many projects, NIAF has established an ambitious national youth program, which reaches out to young people throughout the county with millions of dollars in scholarships, Congressional internships, mentor programs, career conferences, job fairs, and much more. There are many ways in which an individual can contribute to the growth of the National Italian American Foundation, thereby helping to preserve our wonderful heritage.
Council 2000 Network
You may be aware that the NIAF is not a membership organization; however, over twenty-five years ago a group of influential members of the professions, business and community leaders, political figures and others, established the NIAF "Council Network." This special group became the only membership body within the organization. New Council members have traditionally come almost exclusively through referrals from existing members.
As the base of financial support for NIAF, the Council plays an important role in the programs and direction of our organization. Its members included Lee Iacocca, Barbara Sinatra, Mario Andretti, Tony Bennett, AIDS Researchers Dr. Anthony Fauci, baseball great Yogi Berra, and people just like you. As a Council Member, you will receive subscriptions to Ambassador Magazine, and NIAF News, which feature interesting and exciting articles about Italian American history, culture, and contemporary issues. Council members also receive preferred invitations to NIAF events in addition to discounts on travel, Italian language courses, and Italian products.
Associate Level Support
Associate members receive subscriptions to Ambassador Magazine and NIAF News, and are also invited to NIAF events throughout the country.
Tax-wise gifts to the NIAF
In addition to outright charitable gifts to the Foundation, you may also wish to consider a number of "tax-wise gifts" options that are now available at NIAF. Long considered the ultimate "win-win" charitable gift, "planned giving" vehicles offer the following benefits in return for an irrevocable commitment of cash, securities and real estate to the NIAF:
- increased current income
- income tax savings
- capital gain tax savings
- estate tax savings
To request our full color Planned Giving brochure titled: "Protecting Your Heritage Through Planned Giving", please send an e-mail to Michael Sanzi, michael@niaf.org, or call the NIAF office at 202-387-0600. The brochure describes step by step the benefits of fixed contributions.
Capital Campaign (NIAF Endowment)
As with all non profit foundations supporting a major cause, the NIAF strives to secure its place in Washington and the nation by raising endowment funds for the long term security of your Foundation. These funds are placed in permanent long term investments where only the proceeds from earned interest are used by the Foundation to support our many programs and activities.
For information on the NIAF Capital Campaign and pledge opportunities, please send an e-mail to Michael Sanzi, michael@niaf.org, or call the NIAF office at 202-387-0600.
Grants and Scholarships

Grants are available to individuals, groups and organizations with programs or projects to enhance our mission. Scholarships are awarded to qualifying students who meet specific criteria.
