DESCRIPTION OF ORGANIZATION
CET Academic Programs is a private study abroad organization based in Washington, DC that has been designing and administering educational programs abroad since 1982. We offer study abroad programs in China, Vietnam, the Czech Republic, Italy and Spain.  CET is well-known for its innovations in the field of study abroad.  Our programs specialize in integrating students into the society in which they are living and emphasize high academic standards, innovative approaches to teaching and careful student management.  Staffed by over 40 full-time employees in the US and abroad, CET currently sends more than 1,000 US students abroad annually.  For more information on CET, please visit our website at www.cetacademicprograms.com.

POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Catania Resident Director (RD) is responsible for ICCS’s Classical Studies program and CET’s Mediterranean Studies program in Catania, Sicily.  CET Catania operates during the fall, spring and summer terms and ICCS in Catania runs in the fall and spring terms.  The RD reports to the CET Italy Programs Director, and the RD is responsible for managing a part-time assistant, who helps with various program tasks and responsibilities.

The RD serves as CET’s primary liaison for both programs and coordinates communication between the other CET staff members, students, university staff and faculty.  The RD also manages all student housing, meals, activities, excursions and academic issues.

Under the direction of the University of Catania International Student Coordinator and the Italy Programs Director, the RD will handle all academic issues for the CET program.  The ICCS in Catania program will have a Professor in Charge that oversees the program’s academics, however the RD will still be responsible for some academic aspects of the program.  While the RD does not need to have specific teaching experience, he/she needs to have experience with and a very good understanding of the U.S. university system and course structure.

In addition, the RD designs and directs each term's orientation sessions. He or she must meet frequently with CET's students (both informally and during regular office hours) to evaluate their goals, progress, and adjustment to studying in a foreign culture. The RD is also responsible for managing both programs' operating budgets and submitting mid-term and final financial reports for each term.

Attributes of the ideal RD candidate are flexibility, enthusiasm and dedication, with a strong commitment to students and international education.  Candidates are advised that this is a time-consuming, challenging position.  We therefore discourage those interested in pursuing their own research projects in Catania from applying.  Finally, CET is seeking a candidate willing to commit to two years in Catania.

Requirements, in Order of Priority
 - A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline is required; a master’s degree is strongly preferred
 - Near fluency and excellent communication skills, both, verbal and writing in Italian and in English
 - At least two years of professional or academic experience in Italy, specific experience in Sicily is preferred
 - Significant experience with and a good understanding of U.S. university systems and course structures
 - Excellent management & organizational skills
 - At least two years of professional experience working with Americans/Italians
 - Experience working with budgets and accounting issues
 - A willingness to wear different hats and work long hours
 - Ability to work well independently and with a team
 - A commitment to education and study abroad
 - A demonstrated sensitivity to student needs and cultural differences
 - Familiarity with the city of Catania
 - A desire to help develop and improve our programs further

Salary and Benefits
Salary commensurate with experience; health insurance, seven weeks of vacation, 401K retirement plan and other benefits.

To Apply (application deadline is July 2, 2008) Qualified candidates should submit:
 - A formal cover letter that includes the position title (Catania Resident Director) and how you first heard of the position opening;
