Gardens Clean up Day 2007
Gardens Clean up Day 2007

The Gardens of Hope kicked off its gardening season on Saturday, April 14 in grand fashion. Just a few weeks earlier the garden had suffered significant damage when a private contractor carelessly and illegally dumped building materials on the grounds. The tragedy proved to not dampen the Garden’s spirit, however, as supporters increased efforts to raise awareness about the garden and promote the prosecution of illegal dumping in Upton.

These efforts were rewarded as a host of steadfast volunteers and several politicians, including Baltimore Mayor Sheila Dixon, turned out to participate in the Clean-up Day. A representative from Home Depot was also present to pledge a $3,000 grant from the company to help with the rehabilitation of the garden. In addition, Home Depot will send volunteers to work in the garden throughout the growing season.

NIAF would like to thank all of those volunteers and supporters who came to Gardens of Hope to kick off this year’s program.
