NIAF to honor Napolitano at October Anniversary Gala

Madame Secretary Janet Napolitano
Madame Secretary Janet Napolitano
NIAF is proud to announce that it will honor U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano at the Foundation’s upcoming 34th Anniversary Gala on October 24, 2009. Napolitano will receive NIAF’s prestigious Special Achievement Award at the event, which will be held at The Hilton Washington in Washington, D.C.

Prior to her appointment by President Barack Obama, Napolitano served as the Governor of Arizona; during her tenure, she was elected the first female chair of the National Governors Association and had previously served as the first female attorney general in Arizona. As governor of Arizona, one of her platforms was national security and addressing illegal immigration; she was the first governor to call for the National Guard to be stationed at U.S. borders.

NIAF, State Department collaborate on Abruzzo relief efforts

Last week, NIAF and the U.S. State Department signed a memorandum of understanding outlining our joint cooperation on continued earthquake relief efforts in Abruzzo. Per the agreement, NIAF will lead a broad effort in raising private funds for relief activities with a special emphasis on students and education.

We urge you to support this worthy cause. Click here for more information or to make a donation.

To further our agreement with the State Department, NIAF also has launched the Adopt-a-Student Campaign, through which universities in the U.S. will offer up to 125 full scholarships to displaced students from the University of L’Aquila .
