Help find a bone marrow donor for a fellow Italian American

Now’s your chance to increase the pool of potential Italian American bone marrow donors country-wide and potentially find a donor match for James Politi, a 31-year-old Italian American being treated for leukemia at New York’s Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, and Christopher Florentino, 36, of Flushing, Queens, who was diagnosed with a recurrence of Mantle Cell Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.

The highest likelihood of finding bone marrow matches comes from individuals with the same hereditary background. The test consists of a simple mouth swab where a DNA coding will be done to see if you are a match and to categorize you for the database. Anyone between the ages of 18 and 60 and in good general health is eligible to be a donor.

To help James Politi, contact Kashi Clinical Laboratories by visiting www.bonemarrowtest.com; ask the company to mail test results to Dr. Joseph Jurcic, 1275 York Avenue, Box 458, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, New York, New York 10065. To assist Christopher Florentino, visit www.marrow.org, enter promotional code CFNY2008 and the cost of the kit will be paid by a special fund.
