Special NIAF performance of “The Light in the Piazza”

Foundation members and supporters in the Philadelphia area can enjoy a private NIAF reception following a special performance of “The Light in the Piazza” by the Philadelphia Theatre Company on Sunday, December 13 at 3 p.m. Tickets are $100 and $50 for students/faculty.

The performance will be held at The Philadelphia Theatre Company, 480 South Broad Street, Philadelphia, PA 19146. To purchase tickets, contact Rachel Salerno at rsalerno@niaf.org or (202) 939-3122 by close of business on Monday, December 7.

NIAF’s Walk of Honor will feature personalized bricks at the
entrance of our Foundation headquarters.

Having hosted ambassadors and presidents alike, the NIAF Headquarters in Washington, D.C., has long served as a symbol of the Italian American community. Now you and your family can be a permanent part of the foundation on which we literally have built our organization.

Applications for 2010 NIAF educational programs now available


2009 NIAF Voyage of Discovery Program Participants

Applications for all 2010 Scholarships and NIAF’s 2010 Ambassador Peter F. Secchia Voyage of Discovery program are now available on NIAF’s Web site, www.niaf.org/scholarships.

There are two ways to be eligible for a NIAF scholarship: General Category I is for Italian American students who demonstrate outstanding potential and high academic achievements in any field of study. General Category II scholarships are for those students from any ethnic background majoring or minoring in Italian language, Italian studies, Italian American studies or a related field, who demonstrate outstanding potential and high academic achievements.

Scholarship awards range from $2,000-$12,000 and applications may only be submitted online. The scholarship application deadline is March 5, 2010. Visit www.niaf.org to read all regulations regarding scholarships.

Also available online is the application for NIAF’s 2010 Ambassador Peter F. Secchia Voyage of Discovery program. This all-expenses-paid trip for Italian American university students covers round-trip airfare and10 days of educational programs in Italy. The Voyage of Discovery application deadline is January 6, 2010.

Italian American coach wins 700th career game

University of Connecticut Women’s Basketball Coach Geno Auriemma won his 700th career victory on Friday, November 27, becoming the eighth active coach to reach 700 Division I wins.

Auriemma, who has coached the Huskies for 25 years, is the fastest coach to reach this achievement, doing so in just 822 games.
