| About the Program |
The NIAF Health Care Council is a community of Italian American and Italian healthcare leaders. The purpose is to: promote discussion on issues encompassing healthcare in the United States and Italy; provide networking opportunities with leaders from the public and private sectors; create a forum for best practice sharing and idea transfer; and offer mentoring and educational programs for Italian Americans in healthcare or evaluating a career in healthcare. Some of the recent participants in NIAF health related conferences and sessions include: top officials from the United States Department of Health and Human Services; directors from the National Institutes of Health (NIH); the director of the National Cancer Institute (NCI); Food and Drug Administration Commissioner; Italian Minister of Health; Members of Congress with oversight of health issues; think tank, academic and university leaders; AMA, PhRMA and other leading associations; distinguished scientists and researchers; and industry executives.
A centerpiece of this Council is to serve as a forum allowing healthcare professionals to discuss, debate, and confront key issues in healthcare of national and global importance. Assembling leaders in the industry from both the United States and Italy, this group will organize multiple events annually to discuss critical topics in healthcare. The programs will bring professionals from all disciplines under the broad umbrella of healthcare, including delivery, discovery, treatment, disease states as just a few examples. Beyond receiving the obvious networking benefits of being a part of this special group, participating Council members are also supporting NIAF’s youth, educational and cultural programs, including mentoring and scholarships. By joining those who share Italian heritage and success in the healthcare industry, members are helping our young people and tomorrow’s leaders while promoting the best that Italians and Italian Americans have given the world.
